Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Career Remediation Engineer or Scientist supporting our Western New York (WNY) operations in the fields of remediation and environmental compliance. The position will help grow our practice while contributing to challenging environmental remediation and compliance projects including the investigation, feasibility & remedy evaluation, permitting, compliance and auditing, and construction stages for a diverse national private and public sector client base, while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing;
  • Data management, analysis and presentation, including preparing maps, boring logs, cross sections, figures and three-dimensional models;
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Review and manage written document production;
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties;
  • Providing litigation support services, including related to site characterization, hazardous waste and material management;
  • Providing multi-media environmental compliance and health and safety compliance services
  • Conduct fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling, high resolution site characterization oversight, drilling oversight, aquifer testing, borehole geophysics, and contractor oversight;
  • Direct multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Preparing environmental permit applications for industrial wastewater and industrial stormwater discharges, and air emissions sources.
  • Preparing environmental compliance reports, including annual air emissions inventory reports, hazardous waste generator's reports, SARA 312 Tier II reports, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reports, air permit summary of monitoring and compliance certifications and similar reports.
  • Preparing environmental Plans such as Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWP3s) and Slug Discharge Control Plans.
  • Task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a key role in supporting business development, staff development, and mentoring; and
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 50%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering (environmental, civil, chemical) earth science (geology or hydrology), or related science. (required)
  • Advanced degree in related science (valuable)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) or similar professional certification in your field. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of direct environmental consulting experience in site assessment and remediation projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience working in an environmental consulting or manufacturing or industrial EHS or environmental department, with a working knowledge of industrial processes, and their impacts to the environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (valuable)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to environmental remediation, environmental compliance and/or EHS audits (required)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (preferred)
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting (preferred)
  • Proven leadership skills. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Regional visibility through involvement in professional associations or trade organizations. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills (required)
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Current RCRA & DOT (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $91,505/year / Maximum Salary: $134,465/year
