Position description

Position Title: General Internal Medicine Faculty Member

Location: San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH)

Division: General Internal Medicine (DGIM)

Position Overview

The Department of Medicine at UCSF is seeking a dynamic and dedicated colleague to join the General Internal Medicine Faculty at SFGH. To support the academic mission of UCSF and SFGH's commitment to high-quality, equitable care that advances public health, this position will combine clinical and educational responsibilities and offer the opportunity to interested candidates to pursue independently funded research.

The successful candidate will hold an academic rank as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in one of the following series: Health Science, Adjunct, In Residence, or Clinical Professor of Medicine. The role offers flexibility in commitment of effort, depending on the applicant's interests and available resources.

Academic Responsibilities:

* Mentor residents and fellows in clinical and translational research, contributing to the academic growth of junior faculty

* May also include;

o Conduct impactful research related to primary care, health equity, disparities, substance use disorders, chronic disease prevention, health policy, implementation science, and women's health.

o Collaborate with key UCSF centers, including the UCSF Action Research Center (ARC) for Health Equity and the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, to translate research into actionable health policies.

o Demonstrate a clear path towards independent research funding, including career development awards (e.g., NIH K-awards).

Clinical Responsibilities may include:

* Direct patient care for medically and socially complex patients, with a focus on the multi-cultural and multi-lingual communities served by the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

* Supervise and mentor UCSF medical students, residents, and fellows.

* Inpatient clinical duties on the Medicine Resident Inpatient Service at ZSFG.

Qualifications:

* Demonstrated excellence in clinical teaching and a commitment to providing high-quality care to urban underserved populations.

* MD or DO with Board Certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine (ABIM certification preferred).

o Active California medical license and valid DEA license by the start date.

o Minimum of 2 years of experience in primary care, ideally in safety net settings.

* PhD or DrPH if interested in developing a non-clinical independent research program.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Fluency in Spanish and/or Cantonese.

* Experience working with community organizations or health policy entities.

Compensation:

For positions that are 51% effort or more:

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $127,000-$333,700. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

For positions that are 50% effort or less:

See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $90,700-$238,300.

DGIM at ZSFG has over 30 faculty members who together provide medical care at RFPC and on the inpatient wards of SFGH; teaching UCSF medical students, residents, and fellows in the National Clinical Scholars Program; and conducting action-oriented and policy-relevant research focused on generating new knowledge and policy to improve the care and health of diverse populations.
