UC San Diego has over 11,000 academic appointees in multiple types of academic series, including clinical faculty and basic science faculty. The Director(s) of Employee and Labor Relations report to the Senior Director of Academic Employee and Labor Relations. In consultation with the Senior Director, the Director(s) provides support to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel, the Sr. Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and UC San Diego Deans, Department Chairs, Division Chiefs (SOM, SSPPS and HWSPH), Academic Directors and other Academic Administrators. Within the large, complex, and dynamic setting of the University of California, the Director(s) of Academic Employee and Labor Relations (E&LR) is a key member of the UC San Diego Academic Personnel Labor and Employee relations team and a recognized functional expert who regularly leads projects of criticality to the organization as assigned by the Sr. Director. The Director(s) utilizes comprehensive and in-depth employee and labor relations expertise to provide recommendations regarding assigned cases; will develop internal and external contacts, determine methods and procedures on case assignments, and functions as a lead with other employees at the academic department and school level. The Director will ensure UC San Diego's compliance with academic personnel policy, procedure and labor agreements. Under minimal direction and in consultation with the Senior Director, this position has responsibility for academic employee and labor relations matters that are the most diverse and complex in scope within their assigned area, requiring analysis of many factors and development of solutions with broad implications for the organization - all within the parameters of Shared Governance, the APM, the PPM, Academic Senate Bylaws, Regulations and Legislative Rulings. This recruitment is for the Director of Academic Employee & Labor Relations supporting UC San Diego Health/Health Sciences. The Director of Academic ELR - Health will coordinate with appropriate units and divisions of UC San Diego Health/Health Sciences that focuses on Faculty and Physician Management (including Medical Staff and Human Resources) with APS. Seeking candidates with extensive employee and labor relations experience in a large, complex academic and health sciences setting, preferably within the University of California and recognized as an expert throughout the UC system. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $116,000 - $224,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $55.56 - $107.38 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
