Compensation Grade: P22Compensation Details: Minimum: $78,554.00 - Maximum: $78,554.00 AnnuallyDepartment (OPH) WADS - Wadsworth CenterJob Description: Job Description Responsibilities Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist II to work within the Wadsworth Center's Laboratory of Viral Diseases. The incumbent will work as a member of the Research and Development team on performance of next generation whole genome sequencing and the characterization of circulating and emerging human viral pathogens. The incumbent will be responsible for the testing of the Virology Laboratory's SARS-CoV-2 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) viral sequencing surveillance programs, database management activities and work on investigation and implementation of new technologies. The Research Scientist II will also be responsible for troubleshooting and communicating instrument problems with the vendor and coordination of repairs and maintenance. The incumbent will perform other appropriate related duties. This position will be part of a dynamic research and development team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and three years of research experience; OR a master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and two years of research experience; OR a Doctorate degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology. This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements. At least three years of experience performing molecular methods, including one year handling infectious agents. Experience working in a molecular biology laboratory performing whole genome assays, sanger sequencing, and real-time PCR. Experience working with collaborators. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office software, including database management. Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements. Telecommuting may be available on a very limited basis. Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required. Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including but not limited to a laboratory coat, gloves and eye protection, as applicable.
