WHAT TO EXPECT
As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individuals to join our global team. Located in our Columbia, MO plant, you will be a Quality Engineer.
  • Reports directly to the Quality Manager and will facilitate activities that develop people, improve customer satisfaction, and implement innovative solutions to problems and/or process issues for manufacturing value streams assigned.
Key responsibilities (to name a few):
  • Responsible for assuring quality in all phases of the manufacturing value stream from raw material supply to customers' utilization
  • Work cross-functionally with peers and Gates management in developing and executing Advanced Product Quality Plans (APQP) for new & existing products
  • Use Gates change management process for significant internal and external changes
  • Drive execution of quality initiatives and corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) across the assigned manufacturing value streams to achieve strategic quality improvement priorities (E.g. Customer Incident Rate, PPM, Cost of Poor Quality, Inter-Company Incident Rate, Supplier PPM, QMS Management Review KPI's, etc.)
  • Use Gates Electronic 8D Quality Customer Incident process to manage incidents for your assigned value streams
  • Guide root cause investigation and corrective actions/resolution of customer and supplier quality incidents in compliance with industry best practice 'closed loop' methodologies (E.g. 8D, 5-Why, fishbone Diagrams, A3, PDCA) and Gates Quality Management System requirements. Coordinate containment activities to ensure proper segregation of nonconforming product from un-intended use.
  • Complete warranty part failure analysis and implementation of corrective action as determined necessary. Maintain records of warranty evaluation, customer communications, and reports of performance in assigned process areas.
  • Work with new product development teams and site peers in utilizing APQP based management systems to achieve Gates goals in sales growth and product vitality, while eliminating or reducing risk of scrap, rework, and defect escapes.
  • Complete internal quality system audits (E.g. ISO9001, IATF16949) as assigned within the plant Internal QMS audit program. Complete product audits and corrective actions and participate in the plant's Layered Process Audit (LPA) program.
  • Support Gates supplier quality through supplier corrective action process.
  • Support the plant in establishing process controls, error proofing, etc. on critical to quality characteristics for assigned value streams.
  • Assist the PPAP coordinator in the coordination of PPAP submissions as necessary for part qualification with customers in your value stream.
  • Updating quality assurance Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for assigned areas.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
ABOUT YOU
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) undergraduate college degree or equivalent in a technical discipline (E.g. Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, etc.).
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in manufacturing quality assurance preferred
  • Working knowledge of automotive industry quality management standards (AIAG - APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, etc.) and quality assurance problem solving tools is preferred
  • Certification as a Quality Engineer (CQE), Quality Manager (CQM), Quality Auditor (CQA) or Six Sigma Black Belt through ASQ or an equivalent certification is preferred
  • Must be an effective communicator with capability to interact with all layers of management both internal and external to the company
  • Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Visio, Office, SharePoint, PowerPoint
  • Must have experience utilizing quality assurance PC applications: Minitab, SPC Applications, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
