Job Description:

The Senior IP Docket Specialist is responsible for providing essential and specialized client and attorney supporting relating to the docketing of all phases of domestic and foreign patent and trademark prosecution. This position requires advances knowledge of docketing procedure, software and best practices. This position supports a team across multiple offices. A remote work arrangement from one of the below listed locations is available for this position.

Location: Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Washington, DC

  • Lead and assist with docketing new patent and trademark application filings, incoming office actions and correspondence (USPTO, PCT, and Foreign Associate).
  • Oversee and ensure accurate entry and date calculation for docket entries.
  • Run advanced docket reports for patent and trademark cases daily or when needed.
  • Clear the docket on a daily basis. This includes sending reminders.
  • Coordinate with attorneys on issues relevant to clearing the docket and re-docket actions.
  • Oversee quality assurance review for patent and trademark filings by noting and referring any errors or omissions observed during the normal course of docketing duties.
  • Finalize docket status reports for clients and attorneys.
  • Assist with verifying status of patent and trademark applications with the US and worldwide Patent and Trademark databases (i.e. searches, status checks, electronic filing of patent applications and responses).
  • Assist with patent and trademark file transfers (inbound and outbound).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 4-6 years of IP Docket experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of US and foreign patent and trademark prosecution procedures. This includes statutory and filing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization and time management skills.
  • Skills in industry standard patent and trademark docketing software products.
  • Advanced working knowledge of docketing procedures.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, computer and database skills.
  • Strong attention to details with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with individuals on all levels for clients and within the firm.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Chicago, IL: $74,911 to $107,176
  • Washington, DC: $78,168 to $111,836
  • Boston, MA: $78,168 to $111,836
  • Los Angeles, CA: $78,168 to $111,836
  • San Francisco, CA: $81,425 to $116,496

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
