Job Description

As a Counterproliferation and Counter WMD Graduate Research Assistant, you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to develop and evaluate advanced technologies aimed at detecting, protecting against, and defeating CBRN threats. You will assist in the design, simulation, and testing of systems that address current and emerging CBRN threats in the Advanced Concept Laboratory (ACL). Your work will involve conducting detailed technical analyses, preparing technical reports, and presenting your findings to the team. Additionally, you will support the development of prototypes and participate in field tests to validate new technologies and concepts.

This role requires a strong foundation in scientific and engineering principles, along with the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world problems. You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge research and technologies in areas such as analytical chemistry methodologies and techniques, nuclear detector and data acquisition technologies, chemical and biological sensor development, developing AI/ML models and pipelines. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment. This internship will provide valuable experience for students pursuing careers in defense, national security, fundamental science, or advanced technology development. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to publications and present your research at conferences, further enhancing your professional development.

Key Responsibilities



  • Assist in the development of technologies and system-level capabilities related to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear protection and defeat.
  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize findings.
  • Perform detailed technical analyses and data interpretation.
  • Support the design, simulation, and testing of detection systems.
  • Generate and analyze data using statistical software and tools.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and research papers.
  • Participate in and contribute to team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
  • Present research findings to the team and project discussions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the research team.
  • Assist in managing laboratory activities.


Required Minimum Qualifications

Graduate Research Assistant



  • Pursuing a Master's degree or PhD at Georgia Tech in Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Nuclear and Radiological Engineering, or a related field of study
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours)
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Commit to 15-20 hours of work per week


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with bio-, chemical-, and physics-based instrumentation.
  • Experience with analytical chemistry methodologies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of nuclear detector and data acquisition technologies.
  • Familiarity with chemical and biological sensor development.
  • Experience developing AI/ML models and pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype development and testing.
  • Ability to conduct detailed technical analyses and present findings.
  • Experience in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Knowledge of specific techniques, methodologies, or tools relevant to the position.

10-20 hours per week
