Job Responsibilities:

The Senior Vice President (SVP), Education/Professional Affairs directs Association educational affairs and related matters, including policy decisions and activities pertaining to: accreditation of predoctoral, advanced and allied educational programs through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA); dental and allied dental education, the Requirements for Dental Specialty and Specialty Certifying Board recognition, allied dental certification boards, dental licensure, continuing education, anesthesia teaching guidelines, and other educational issues through the Council on Dental Education and Licensure (CDEL); admission and licensure high stakes testing services through the Department of Testing Services (DTS) and the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations; the ADA CERP program through the Commission on Continuing Provider Recognition, dental specialty and certifying board recognition through the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards, and oversight of the ADA Library and Archives. The SVP also serves as the Association's liaison for communication with the communities of interest regarding the activities and programs of the agencies and departments of the Center of Excellence-Education and Training, and is responsible for encouraging cooperative efforts.

Must Have:




  • DDS/DMD from CODA-accredited dental education program


  • At least 15 years of upper level administrative experience in an educational institution, professional organization, health care organization, government or in a military service
  • Has developed a national presence and reputation in dental education
  • Knowledge of education for dentistry and allied dental professions, accreditation, licensure, high-stakes testing

  • Leadership and management skills, including personnel and budget management



  • Effective oral and written communication skills


  • Position requires some weekend work and travel
