Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Advanced Microscopy and Nuclear Materials Analysis Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in our Irradiated Fuels and Materials department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every Friday off. You will analyze data collected from advanced microscopies, including X-ray computed tomography (CT), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic probe tomography (APT). You will focus on achieving a comprehensive understanding of nuclear materials through data analysis and interpretation to determine material performance and uncover the fundamental mechanisms of metallic fuels behavior, HT9 cladding materials' defect evolution, and fuel cladding chemical interaction phenomena under various irradiation conditions.

Responsibilities Include:




  • Interpret data from advanced microscopy techniques to understand nuclear material performance.



  • Investigate the basic mechanisms of metallic fuels behavior and HT9 cladding materials' defect evolution.



  • Study the fuel cladding chemical interaction phenomena under different irradiation conditions.



  • Publish research results in internal reports and open literature promptly.



  • Foster collaboration between computational and experimental elements through research exchanges to build a common intellectual foundation for postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and principal investigators.



Qualifications


  • PhD Requirements: Must be completed by the commencement of the appointment and within the previous 5 years.



  • Education: Ph.D. in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.



  • Technical Skills:




    • Hands-on experience with computer vision based on machine learning and artificial intelligence model development and application.



    • Knowledge of materials science.



    • Hands-on experience in conducting nuclear material data analysis on both fresh and irradiated HT9 and metallic fuels.





  • Communication:




    • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in English.



    • Demonstrated expertise in physical/mechanical metallurgy principles, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.



    • Excellent publication record in peer-reviewed journals.





  • Research and Grants:




    • Successful record of writing and being awarded research grants.





  • Teamwork and Leadership:




    • Be a strong team player and effectively organize and lead tasks.



    • Relevant experience working in a research laboratory environment.






Job Information:

Salary: $96,900 Annually
