Job Description Summary

You will work on quantitative analysis and modeling of agricultural commodity markets. This role will be passionate about reinforcing and growing our research on grains/oilseeds market insights, including crop production, stocks, trade flows, consumptions, pricing, policies, etc. Specifically you will focus on corn and soybean supply and demand analysis, as well as crop-based biofuel/biodiesel market analysis. Internally, you will be responsible for working with other teams at LSEG to improve the workflows and grow the business. Externally, you will connect with our global user base that spans the agriculture business, via client meetings, webinars, conference presentations and press reports.

Job Description

LSEG's Agriculture Research team analyzes and forecasts agricultural commodity markets, and provides insights to our clients interested in the agriculture business. We are seeking a Senior Analyst to continue to expand our outstanding world crop supply and demand forecasting pipelines. The candidate for this position will develop and maintain models that forecast corn and soybean consumption, crop-based biofuel/biodiesel production, and other metrics for major crops. The responsibilities also include comprehensive data-driven analysis and forecasts of global grains/oilseeds market trends. The role will require close work with Agriculture Research analysts, as well as our Weather, Pricing and Shipping teams, and include frequent interactions with clients via client meeting, conference presentation, webinar presentation, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop/maintain data-driven models that forecast corn and soybean consumption with full accountability for quality and timeliness, including crop-based biofuel/biodiesel production.
  • Explore research opportunities based on client needs to ensure biofuel/biodiesel research within the team is evolving and developing to stay ahead of market competitors. Complete research studies independently and deliver/interpret research results to customers in innovative ways.
  • Work closely with our analysts and specialists to produce forward-looking market reports for corn and soybeans, including production outlook, weather risks, trade flows (imports/exports), price movements, market drivers, etc.
  • Track global agriculture trade flows, analyze and model imports/exports, and write insightful commentaries on agriculture commodity trading.
  • Process and deliver ag-related data and research content to our platforms using PowerBI and other tools.
  • Engage with market participants within Agriculture to increase exposure of LSEG agricultural research in the world. Provide full support to Sales, Marketing and Customer Success teams by meeting with clients, speaking in professional conferences, webinar presentation, podcasting, etc.

Required Skills:

  • Predictive model development experience.
  • 1-3 years of proven experience in research or financial modeling within Agricultural business
  • Basic understanding of Python for data science.
  • Sophisticated in English.
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • MSc (preferred) in Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Geography, Plant Sciences, Data Science, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience with Python
  • Major bonus:
    • Basic knowledge of R or Matlab
    • Sophisticated knowledge of PowerBI
    • Experience in agricultural commodity supply and demand analysis.
    • Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese a plus.
