JOB SUMMARY
Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of science.

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases is hiring a Research Technician II for the Dr. Theodoros Kelesidis Lab. This candidate will participate in research activities relat3ed to Infectious Diseases. The lab focuses on translational studies of immunopathogensis of viral infections and associated human diseases with a goal to develop novel therapies. The employee will participate in both clinical research activities and lab based research activities that will advance the research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Theodoros Kelesidis.

Specific job duties will include performing laboratory procedures in cellular immunology and virology and support analysis and management data and performing molecular biology and immunology experiments in the study of the inflammatory and cellular immune responses in viral infections including but not limited to, HIV-1 infection and SARS-Cov-2 and review data.

Candidate is expected to be fully independent (or require minimal training/supervision) in performing essential experiment techniques for the laboratory such as cell culture, process of cells, cryopreservation of cells, working with virus and animal procedures (anesthesia, phlebotomy, injections, tissue dissections). Expected to feel comfortable following upper-level biosafety procedures (including BSL3 biosafety level) related to working with biospecimens (blood, tissue, cells) from COVID-19 and HIV-1 infected patients.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience or
    Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or
    High School Diploma or GED


  • Experience
    No experience required with Bachelor's Degree or
    2 years Of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college or
    4 years Of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation/GED


JOB DUTIES




    • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
    • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
    • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
    • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
    • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
    • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
