Southern States' Summer Internship Program is for rising college Juniors and Seniors and gives students an opportunity to experience and contribute to our overall success. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above and be currently enrolled and attending a four year university. Program Details (subject to change as events arise): 10 week program (split into 2 sessions) One 5-week session in internal audit One 5-week session in one of our other accounting departments Internal Audit
Experience field audits at various locations
Some overnight travel required
Assist in pre and post work associated with these reviews including drafting audit reports
Understand control environment, including the Company's point of sale system, and testing of these controls
Participate in operational and financial audits of the corporate/administrative functions of the Company
Assist with the Southern States year-end audit by testing accounting and operating procedures assigned by the Internal Audit department and the Southern States outside auditing firm.
Accounting
Experience one or more of our operational accounting or financial reporting departments
Assist with the month-end or year-end closing process
Gain exposure to the general ledger system and learn how to access electronic and hard copy information from the system.
Learn to perform analysis of information using excel spreadsheets, data warehouse queries and other software and analysis tools.
Work with the appropriate manager/supervisor to prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts gaining an understanding of their value.
Perform margin and expense reviews, analyzing operational and financial information, for various locations, which could include wholesale facilities, retail stores or corporate department.
Work with point of sale detail transactions and the review and monitoring procedures of such. QUALIFICATIONS: What you need to succeed: Rising Junior or Senior College Student seeking an accounting degree. Rising 5th year accounting students pursuing their 150 hours required for the CPA are also eligible. GPA of 2.5 or above Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Independent worker. Energetic, organized and detailed skilled with today's technology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Satisfactory completion of introductory accounting courses and a basic understanding of accounting principles |
