JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University Bryce Jordan Cent is searching for a full time Area Facilities Maintenance Worker to join their team. Duties include:

  • Perform minor repair and parts replacement duties on a wide variety of mechanical and plumbing equipment and electrical components including, but not limited to, heating, ventilation, air conditioning units, motorized custodial equipment, water treatment and filters, heat exchangers, all aspects of building plumbing systems, air compressors, air tanks, pumps, fans, motors, and coils, etc. Inspect, clean, lubricate, and perform, routine preventive maintenance on a wide variety of mechanical and plumbing equipment and electrical control equipment
  • Perform a variety of routine carpentry-related duties such as adjusting and rehanging doors, repairing baseboards and molding, building rough shelves, installing ceiling tile, replacing floor tile and repainting windows, doors, seats, and screens
  • Measure, cut, install various types of glass
  • Install and repair furniture, restroom fixtures, seating fixtures, and other accessories
  • Repair, replace, and adjust door closures, doors, windows, and cabinet hardware, and event seats, tables and chairs
  • Repair blinds to include replacing worn or broken cords, tapes and slats or shade cloth
  • Tighten or replace blind fixtures
  • Repair or replace gear assemblies as required
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs such as replacing washers, seats, valves, packing; clean traps, and flushometers, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs and replacement of electrical equipment such as duplex outlets, lamp cords, fixtures, fluorescent light ballasts and switches
  • Spackle, caulk, and fill holes and cracks in masonry, wood, plaster, etc., using premixed materials
  • Perform ordinary interior and exterior painting
  • Perform minor wall covering and laminate repair
  • Perform operations utilizing portable power drills, power saws, and power screwdrivers, etc.
  • Use a variety of hand tools
  • Assist higher grade tradespersons
  • Lift, hold or position equipment
  • Disassemble and assemble plates, covers, etc.
  • Maintain work areas in mechanical rooms in a clean and orderly condition
  • Repair and apply insulation material to pipes, valves, fittings, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Remove insulation material
  • Estimate materials needed for applying insulation
  • Operate motor vehicles as required
  • Perform facility operations duties, such as activating and monitoring, heating, cooling, ventilation, fire alarm, and lighting systems
  • Set up and break down a variety of event related fixtures, to include placing electrical plugs into standard receptacles

Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Over 1 year and up to and including 3 years of effective experience.

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.

This position is part of the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 8 and has a starting hourly wage of $23.09.
