WHAT TO EXPECT

As an innovation leader, we look for ambitious, forward-thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individuals to be a leader in our Gates Americas HSE Americas team. Reporting to the Americas VP, Operations and working closely with the Business Unit Directors of Operations and Site Plant and HSE leaders, you will be responsible for organizing, implementing, mentoring and monitoring the Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability activities within the scope of Company requirements and local, state, and federal regulations with a world-class HSE mindset. This is an exciting opportunity for you because you will be:

  • Teaching and mentoring our site HSE leaders in developing their HSE competencies and leadership skills.
  • Working with the sites and the Directors of Operations in developing and implementing site and business level HSE strategy and improvement plans.
  • Serving as a liaison between site and Corporate HSE

Key responsibilities (to name a few):

  • Participating in the development of the Gates HSE Global standards and practices as part of the Gates Global HSE Leadership team.
  • Participating in the Gates HSE auditing program and leading the self-audit and corrective action process for sites within the Americas region.
  • Analyzing HSE metrics and data and engaging with site and business leaders in developing actions to improve their HSE metrics.
  • Supporting sites in HSE risk assessment with a focus on HSE hierarchy of controls when developing controls and risk reduction plans. Actively participating in these activities while at sites.
  • Mentoring site leadership in root cause incident investigations and sharing learnings across all sites in the region. Takes a leader role in incident and crisis management for significant HSE events.
  • Providing regulatory and technical guidance to site operations and regional senior management as necessary.
  • Ensure site HSE management systems are in place and harmonized across sites in accordance with Gates standards for maintaining ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications.
  • Developing business and regional key HSE risk reduction and sustainability improvement projects and creating a forum for ensuring these projects are implemented.
  • Leading HSE aspects of acquisitions within the region as assigned.
  • Leader of the Site HSE Regional team alignment to identify and address common risks and opportunities across the region and/or business units.
  • Being the HSE functional supervisor for all site HSE leaders within your responsibility.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Engineering or Occupational Safety & Health, preferred
  • 10+ years of HSE-specific experience required, preferably in the manufacturing industry
  • Professional certifications preferred (ASP/ CSP, CHMM, CIH)
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations across the region with strong experience in ergonomics, machine safety, environmental permitting and waste management.
  • Experience in leading sustainable projects
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in partnering with business leaders on developing and driving initiatives.
  • High Level interpersonal and leadership skills; must be able to influence and coach across multiple levels within the company and locations. Serves as a change agent to drive cultural change in quickly changing business environment and inspires others to action through collaboration and influence.
  • Works well under pressure, effectively handles conflict and demonstrates flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and fixed deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize strategic vision and translate into tactical actionable plans. Travel: 50 -70%
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship (DLS: if based in the US)

PAY & BENEFITS

  • Bonus Eligible
  • Medical, Dental, Vision insurance and other voluntary benefit options: benefits begin on the first day of the month immediately following your date of hire
  • Eligible for 3 weeks of paid vacation + 11 holidays + 8 sick days. All vacation days are accrued monthly.
