Engineering a world of possibilities
The Colorado School of Mines Department of Geophysics invites applications for two post-doctoral fellow positions in geologic hydrogen research. The successful candidate's responsibilities will include research in geologic hydrogen exploration, integrated exploration using electromagnetic, gravity, magnetic, and seismic data. The research activities will encompass numerical simulations and field data.

We seek two individuals holding a PhD in geophysics with a strong background in computational electromagnetics and geophysical inversion theory, and parallel computing. The candidates should have a background in most of the following areas: electromagnetic methods, gravity and magnetic methods, seismic, time-lapse geophysics, joint inversion with deterministic and statistical coupling, integration of multiple geophysical data sets, high performance computing, and open-source simulation and inversion software in python and FORTRAN.

Job responsibilities will include research, project management, writing peer-reviewed journal papers, interacting with national laboratories, and giving conference presentations. The candidate is expected to work independently and collaboratively on projects requiring initiative, creativity, strong organizational skills, communication skills, ability to follow project deadlines, and ability to supportively collaborate with student researchers.

The position will be located in the Department of Geophysics at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. The successful candidates will be offered a one- or two-year full-time post-doctoral fellow position, with possibility of extension. The start date is July 1, 2024.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research on geologic hydrogen exploration
  • Numerical simulation and integration of geoscientific data in geologic hydrogen exploration
  • Interact and communicate with research sponsors
  • Write peer-reviewed journal papers and present at national and international conferences


Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • PhD in geophysics
  • Experience in electromagnetic exploration, gravity and magnetic exploration seismic exploration, and integrated exploration
  • Experience in numerical simulation and integration
  • Experience in joint inversion of geophysical and geologic data


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong programming skills (Python and MATLAB).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proposal idea generation and proposal writing
