JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Biomed is the primary administrative contact between other departments and the Biomedical Engineering Department. This position develops, directs, organizes and manages overall operations and distribution of resources (staffing, budgets, and outside vendor services) of the biomedical engineering equipment support services program.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required
  • Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, biomedical, or clinical engineering, with documented attendance at two or more manufacturer service schools or management seminars.
  • Experience

  • 10 years experience in the biomedical/imaging service industry,

    6 years of which must be in a supervisory or managerial capacity.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • AAMI/ACI Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM) is required Upon Hire

    Current employees must obtain certification within two (2) years of job description effective date (July 2023).

JOB DUTIES
  • Informs hospital and other entity management staff of operational and financial aspects of the biomedical engineering department services performed at their sites.
  • Determine proper staffing levels to provide equipment support services at assigned accounts; distribute personnel based on preventive and corrective maintenance workloads.
  • Review productivity and efficiency work data for all staff and identify areas where improvements can be made to maximize resources.
  • Meet regularly with department site supervisors/team leaders to review previous work completion data, future scheduled work assignments, quality assurance issues, new equipment inspections, and any other projects or equipment support needs.
  • Work with department site supervisors/team leaders and clinical engineers on projects related to new equipment acquisition, installation, renovation, modification, or removal. May directly oversee the progress and status of such projects.
  • Monitors all service contracts covering patient-related equipment.
  • Determine training needs for staff technicians and engineers and recommend/implement arrangements as needed to obtain necessary training, test equipment, and tools needed to expand the areas of technical services provided by the department.
  • Ensure that work request from equipment users and end users are responded to within established timeframes.
  • Understand and comply with all Joint Commission and other applicable standards and regulations.
  • Develops strategic planning and goals and communicates vision and direction for department and strategy for achieving these goals.
  • Develops standards for and ensures maintenance of departmental records.
  • Supervises and guides departmental staff through direct supervision, setting individual performance goals, clarification of responsibilities, identification of continuing educational needs and regular communication.
  • Manages Human Resource function of department to ensure University Hospital Human Resource policy and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains management information reports that monitor inventory levels and usage in interactive manner.
  • Prepares ongoing reports such as temperature monitoring and asset tracking and department status reports for executive staff.
  • Develops and monitors workload and quality indicators for all Biomed functions. Develops, monitors, and justifies Biomed departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Processes medical device recalls as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
