Engineering Technician

We are on the lookout for a driven Engineering Technician to provide support to Department sponsored and locally sponsored projects. In this position, you will provide support for projects of moderate to high complexity. You will maintain direct communication with utility companies throughout the phases of utility clearance, bidding, awarding, and construction to ensure that necessary utility relocations are executed and project milestones are achieved. You will participate in assigned project scoping sessions to offer insights on potential utility impacts and the effort required for coordination. Additionally, you will assist Project Managers in conducting Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) evaluations and assessing the need for more extensive utility investigations. Travel to project sites may be required for field assessments and on-site meetings during the design and construction phases. You will cultivate strong relationships and offer technical guidance to utilities and designers for effective coordination. Furthermore, you will review proposed relocation plans to ensure compliance with Design Manual 5 and other relevant standards, while also supporting the use of the Utility Relocation Management System (URMS) among internal and external partners to facilitate utility clearance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
