Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit |
The Weatherspoon Art Museum at
UNC Greensboro enriches the lives of diverse individuals and connects multiple communities, both on and off campus, by presenting, interpreting, and collecting modern and contemporary art. In recognizing its paramount role of public service, the Weatherspoon fosters an appreciation of the ability of art to positively impact lives.
WAM is internationally known for its collections of American paintings, sculptures, and works on paper and for its exhibitions that help broaden the story of American art to be more inclusive of women and artists of color. The museum has six galleries and a sculpture courtyard with over 17,000 square feet of exhibition space. The American Alliance of Museums accredited the Weatherspoon in 1995 and renewed its accreditation in 2005 and 2015. Through a lively annual calendar of exhibitions and a multi-disciplinary educational program for audiences of all ages, the museum provides an opportunity for visitors to consider artistic, cultural, and social issues of our time-enriching the life of our university, community, and region. |
Position Summary |
Ensures that all museum visitors have a positive experience while maintaining a safe and secure environment and protecting the museum's collection and loans. This includes answering questions, enforcing rules, looking out for suspicious behavior, providing assistance, and engaging visitors about works of art, museum programs, and how to support the museum. Supports the director in developing a vibrant and engaged community by promoting the museum's strategic framework and goals |
Minimum Qualifications |
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY AND DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. SOME POSITIONS MAY REQUIRE VALID N.C. DRIVER'S LICENSE. |
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates |
Must obtain and maintain updated First Aid,
CPR, and
AED training and certification. |
Preferred Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Should have a genuine interest in communicating with members of the public and providing assistance to visitors.
- Should have proficient computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Customer service experience:
- Able to stand/walk constantly throughout the day and regularly interact with the public.
- Should exhibit sound judgment and the ability to calmly and quickly take initiative in emergency situations.
- Flexibility to work on a rotating on-call basis during evening hours and in case of systems failure.
- Demonstrated commitment to a diverse and equitable working environment and to serving the needs of the campus and community.
