Primary Purpose of Department
The Center for Wellness Promotion uses a public health model and prevention and health promotion strategies to empower students to make informed decisions about their personal health and well-being. Our team of multidisciplinary professionals addresses issues such as alcohol use, drug use, recovery from substance use disorders, sexual health, sexual and relationship violence, and a variety of other wellness topics that affect college students. We aspire to empower the University community to develop healthier attitudes and behaviors in order to create a safer, more equitable campus culture.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director's primary responsibility includes the development, coordination, and implementation of educational programming, campus-wide outreach events, and passive educational campaigns with a focus on interpersonal violence prevention and sexual health education for students.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Assistant Director will develop, design, and deliver prevention education and awareness activities for students related to interpersonal violence including dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. This position will also develop and implement health education workshops, training, and campus outreach on sexual health-related topics. The Assistant Director will maintain liaison with other programs, offices, and departments to coordinate and accomplish program objectives in addition to interfacing with community partners to increase student access to supportive resources.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master's or advanced degree in a related field required. Most relevant fields of study include (but are not limited to) public health, health promotion, higher education leadership, social work, gender and sexuality studies, or related fields required.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of interpersonal violence prevention subject matter such as, but not limited to, current data and trends, theory and evidence-informed prevention practices, and trauma-informed, survivor-centered prevention practices
  • Experience implementing interventions across the social ecological model
  • Experience in developing and coordinating prevention and health education programs with special attention to interpersonal violence prevention and sexual health education, and/or related and equivalent experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as skill in presenting effectively to faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team of university professionals.
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods including presentations, workshops, trainings, and small group discussion/facilitation
