THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services (DHS), Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services (BJJS), is seeking a hardworking, enthusiastic, compassionate, and caring Youth Development Counselor Manager. This position will be located at our new Southeast Youth Development Center in Montgomery County. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Youth Development Counselor Manager, you will plan, organize, and direct social development and rehabilitation programs for court adjudicated youth at our secure residential treatment facility. You will oversee two treatment units by developing goals, reviewing work, and providing program supervision. This will include providing safe, secure, clean, and comfortable environments in accordance with institutional and DHS policies and regulations. Using strong leadership and attention to detail to manage cost and care efficiencies, you will ensure our policies support effective child care treatment. In addition, you will coordinate services with consulting psychologists, meet with families and other interested parties of residents, and coordinate staff development training programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel as needed.

  • You must be willing to accept employment at Southeast Youth Development Center, Montgomery County and commute to this facility.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $75,678 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Youth Development Counselor Supervisor; or
  • Two years of professional counseling experience with delinquent, pre- delinquent or socially maladjusted youth in an organized program, which included one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity, and a bachelor's degree in the behavioral sciences, special education, juvenile delinquency or criminal justice; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training including two years of professional counseling experience with delinquent, pre-delinquent, or socially maladjusted youth in an organized program, which included one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    1. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
