Position Summary
Reporting to the Integrated Communications Manager, this position will translate communications opportunities and challenges into well-designed print and digital materials that visually communicate the brand for the UNC School of Medicine.

This position will work with clients across the school on complex and high-profile projects to produce high-quality print pieces, accessible and user-friendly web designs and unique branding packages.

The selected candidate must possess proven ability to design print and web work with a demonstrated understanding of current design principles and aesthetics.

This is a fast-paced, high-volume environment that requires the ability to effectively deliver timely, customized design solutions within the UNC School of Medicine brand. The selected candidate will be a self-sufficient designer with an excellent portfolio and be extremely detail-oriented. The selected candidate must have demonstrated technical knowledge, have good client/customer skills, be team-oriented, be able to independently manage projects from start to finish and have experience working within specific time frames and budgets.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Computer skills on a Mac platform and familiarity with Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).

Demonstrated mastery of design principles through a portfolio of print and electronic products.

Strong design, layout and typography skills.

Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of planning, designing and producing visually appealing products that communicate a clear message to target audiences.

Ability to communicate well with clients across campus and with printers and other vendors.

Ability to take an assignment or complex project and independently see it through the design and production processes.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Prior experience designing for the web and digital applications (websites, emails, gifs, social media, etc.) or experience in an agency setting is preferred.
