Position Function
Operate Ball State University buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and personnel on the shuttle run or other dispatched runs.
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent ( GED)
Minimum Experience
1. At least six months of verified professional driving experience.
2. Must demonstrate ability to drive bus (on-site driving test).
3. Must possess and maintain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with an endorsement for public passengers and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
4. Must possess a good driving record; verification through Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
5. Must pass a post offer/pre-employment mandatory drug and alcohol test.
6. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Over-the-road ( OTR) bus or truck driving experience.
Pre-Employment Screening Requires successful completion of a background check.

Ranking 1
Job duty
Operate passenger buses, shuttles, vans and paratransit units on various routes as established by the Transportation Office.
Duty Requirement
Requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods of time, operate various size/types of vehicles, move in and out of various vehicles to assist passengers, including disabled passengers, bend, grasp, finger and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires a wide field of vision and the visual ability to perceive depth and distinguish colors. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, vibrations, etc. Task requires the mental ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions, information, and traffic signs and signals, and to receive, comprehend, and follow oral instructions and information.

Inspect buses and report any equipment malfunctions; maintain cleanliness of vehicles.
Duty Requirement
Requires the physical ability to bend, stoop, hear, crawl, push, pull, walk, kneel, see, lift hoods of vehicles, and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to perceive depth and distinguish color. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, noise, etc. Task requires the mental ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and to receive, comprehend, and follow oral instructions and information.

Fuel daily and inspect bus for any exterior damage.
Duty Requirement
Requires physical ability to bend, stoop, push, pull, walk, kneel, see, lift hoods of vehicles, and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the visual ability to read and check gauges, fluid levels, etc., perceive depth, and distinguish colors. Employee is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, oils, chemicals, etc. Task requires the mental ability to read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information, and receive, comprehend, and follow oral instructions and information.

Maintain contact with Transportation Office when necessary via radio and/or telephone; inform office of changes in location, delays, traffic problems, emergencies, etc.
