Junior SQL Developer

The Role:
- Client is looking for Junior SQL Developers to join us on a 12 month contract to hire with an insurance client. This position is in Lansing, MI requiring on-site work 2 days per week.
- Seeking a motivated individual to join our Actuarial Division as a Junior Data Engineer / SQL Developer.
- As a Junior SQL Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SQL-based database solutions.
- Your experience in SQL and database management will play a role in ensuring the accuracy, performance, and scalability of our database systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views.
- Optimize and tune SQL queries for performance improvements.
- Work with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements for database solutions.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of database systems to support various business applications.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency through rigorous testing and validation processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Implement database security policies and procedures to ensure data protection.
- Collaborate with data architects and other team members on database design and architecture.
- Monitor database performance and suggest improvements.
- Participate in database migrations, upgrades, and other data-related projects.
- Write technical documentation for database processes and development activities.
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, trends, and technologies related to SQL development
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience as an SQL Developer or in a similar database development role.
- Experience in SQL, including query writing, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work with datasets and database architectures.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Python, Power BI, Apache Iceberg, S3 i.
- Experience with cloud databases.
- Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Knowledge of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery techniques.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
