JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Employee Relations Investigator is responsible for conducting comprehensive, impartial, and timely investigations into assigned employee relations concerns, including allegations of workplace misconduct, investigations triaged by the Office of Institutional Compliance & Audit Services, as well as the Office of Access & Title IX. This role is crucial in fostering a positive workplace environment by investigating concerns timely and efficiently, ensuring issues are addressed in compliance with UT Southwestern policies, applicable laws, and regulations. This position will report directly to the Assistant Vice President, Employee Relations and Support.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required
  • Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in human resource management, business administration, or relevant study
  • Experience

  • 5 years of professional experience conducting investigations, including demonstrated experience leading investigations independently and wholly
Preferred
  • Education

  • Master's Degree in related field
  • Experience

  • Prior progressively responsible experience working in employee relations or human resources management, conducting investigations, and handling disciplinary matters is preferred

JOB DUTIES
  • Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Office of Access and Title IX and other offices as needed to address complex employee relations issues and ensure a unified approach to conflict management.
  • Lead and manage all aspects of employee relations investigations, ensuring a timely, fair, and consistent approach to triaging and resolving reported issues.
  • Ensure all investigations are completed within assigned deadlines, as indicated in departmental service level agreements.
  • Assure effectiveness of investigation, prompt reporting, appropriate recommendations, and swift follow-through; to ensure all recommendations are completed, and properly documented in appropriate systems.
  • Foster partnerships with key stakeholders, working in collaboration to enhance processes and/or the work environment as needed.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert on relevant laws, regulations, and UT System and UTSW policies and procedures, advising as appropriate.
  • Utilize current case management system to track, ensuring proper record keeping of all cases; all documentation has been added to the system, is accurate and up to date.
  • Independently analyze complaints, formulate investigative plans, conduct interviews, review relevant documents, and prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations. Direct identified issues to appropriate existing channels for resolution.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on investigation outcomes, trends, and metrics to Human Resources (HR) leadership and relevant stakeholders, making recommendations as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to provide feedback on training programs for managers and employees specific to employee relations policies and conflict resolution.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of employee relations policies and procedures to ensure they align with current laws and best practices.
  • Stay current on changes in employment laws and regulations, ensuring that the organization remains compliant with all relevant requirements.
  • Serves as a back-up to Sr. Employee Relations Consultant as needed.
  • May supervise staff and provide training as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
