UNDERSTANDING AND PROTECTING THE PLANET SINCE 1903 Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at UC San Diego is one of the most important centers for global earth science research and education in the world. Scripps scientists work to understand and protect the planet by investigating our oceans, Earth, and atmosphere to find solutions to our greatest environmental challenges. Scripps leads research in climate change impacts and adaptation, resilience to hazards, conservation and biodiversity, oceans and human health, national security, and innovative technology to observe the planet. Supporting SIO, Shipboard Technical Support (STS) provides specialized expertise, personnel, instrumentation and support services to scientists that use oceanographic research vessels. Under the direction of the STS Specialized Services Manager and an Academic Administrator, coordinates operations of the Oceanographic Data Facility (ODF) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography; supervises multiple SRA's in the research activities regarding the physical and chemical properties of seawater masses worldwide. Keeps abreast of new technologies for chemical analysis of sea water and develops new methodologies for use on research ships. Prepares findings for presentation at conferences and publications. The ODF supervisor directs the processing of data collected by in-situ instrumentation and data from laboratory analyses of collected seawater samples; oversees the scheduling of technicians and instrumentation for research cruises and all other ODF project work. The ODF supervisor is the watch leader at sea, responsible for data quality control analysis and process improvement. The ODF Supervisor prepares final data reports and technical notes to be included in scientific publications, and participates in national and international workshops for planning of global hydrographic research. QUALIFICATIONS
This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $77,000 - $139,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $36.88 - $66.67 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
