Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Pediatric and Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence, and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Public Health discipline is a dynamic unit that offers educational programs including community rotations, a dental public health residency program, and an Oral Epidemiology PhD program. |
Position Summary |
The University of North Carolina invites applications for a full-time, open rank, tenure track or fixed-term faculty position in the Division of Pediatric and Public Health. We are seeking an outstanding educator and scientist who can teach public health in the graduate, dental hygiene and
DDS programs and conduct research in related areas. The ideal candidate must have excellent research, leadership, mentorship, and organizational skills. Outstanding opportunities exist for teaching and research in our new state of the art facilities. Evaluation of applicants' qualifications will be based on experience, accomplishments, and current scholarly activity. Teaching Responsibilities: Course Instruction and Curriculum Development: Designing and delivering courses related to dental public health at various academic levels (dental hygiene and dental students, students in advanced dental education programs, and dental public health residents); Developing new courses or updating existing ones to reflect advancements in the field. Supervision: Mentoring and supervising students in research projects, theses, or dissertations, presentations, abstract and manuscript submissions. Research Responsibilities: (50% or more, may need time to ramp up) Research Initiatives: Conducting independent or collaborative research in dental public health, seeking grants, and publishing findings in reputable, peer-reviewed journals. Data Analysis: Analyzing and/or evaluating oral health data, trends, and outcomes to contribute to the field's knowledge base, collaborations with biostatisticians, etc. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborating with professionals from other disciplines (e.g., public health, epidemiology, other health professions) to address oral health disparities and promote community health. Service Responsibilities: Community Engagement: Engaging with local, regional, or national communities to address oral health needs and disparities. Consultation: Providing consultation to public health agencies, dental organizations, or government bodies on dental public health matters. Professional Contributions: Participating in professional organizations, committees, or boards related to dental public health research, education, advocacy or policy development. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
A dental degree, advanced education in public health, and research experience. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Advanced education in dental public health,
ABDPH-eligible or board certified, grant-writing experience, and teaching experience |
