Job Summary:

Responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of all mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and refrigeration systems in Union South, Memorial Union and food service units across UW-Madison campus. Based on operation needs, employee may be assigned other facilities duties as required.


Responsibilities:
Installs, maintains, and repairs environmental control or refrigeration equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment within an assigned facility. May direct the work of other staff performing routine maintenance and repair functions.

  • 20% Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, related equipment, and controls according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Receives, prioritizes, and responds to service requests according to established timelines and policies
  • 20% Identifies, prioritizes, troubleshoots, and escalates system problems, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs
  • 30% Performs scheduled preventative and routine maintenance and documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • 5% Develops and schedules operational work plans for staff occasionally
  • 5% Works special events as required for operational needs

Education:

Preferred
H.S. Diploma


Qualifications:

Preferred two years' experience with the following:
-Maintaining and conducting the repairs of HVAC equipment
-HVAC Trouble shooting experience
-Facility maintenance
-Maintaining and repair of food service equipment


License/Certification:

Preferred
EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification
Industrial, technical, or HVAC-related degree or certifications Preferred

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards


Work Schedule:

Hours for this position are Monday-Friday 6:30am-3pm. Along with other HVAC mechanics, this position will have rotating weekends & holidays on call.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
