About the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The Woodruff School graduates high caliber mechanical engineers for a demanding profession. Mechanical engineers are the foundation of today's technological world. Job Summary

The George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering has heavily invested in a new educational facility and equipment for our students, faculty and staff in the MRDC Building complex. The Woodruff school is committed to creating a culture of safety as well as providing engineering design support for faculty, staff and students who use the Montgomery Machining Mall (MMM), Invention Studio, IDEAS Lab and Student Competition Center (SCC), as well as the new TechMade initiative.

This research engineer position has been created to provide engineering design support for TechMade and MMM customers, machine operation and safety training in the MMM, and support for the school's new TechMade initiative. This includes providing instructional support for select design courses each semester.

Responsibilities

Duties for this position may include but are not limited to

  • Teach one to two ME 2110 Creative Decisions studios and/or a ME 4182 Capstone Design studio section or other design and manufacturing related lab or studio section each. (25%)
  • Provide consulting services to students working on projects in capstone design and other classes (15%)
  • Provide engineering design support for MMM customers (25%)
  • Provide safety training in the MMM for students in ME 2110, ME3210, ME 4182, Invention Studio, Student Competition Center, etc. (20%)
  • Work with other staff on safety issue and promoting a culture of safety in Wepfer Design Commons and adjacent makerspaces and facilities like Invention Studio and IDEAS lab (15%)
Required Qualifications

  • A Masters degree in Engineering or related fields and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Masters degree in Engineering or related fields and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of Bachelors, or
  • A Doctoral degree
Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have substantial hands-on production and engineering experience with a strong interest in education and developing a culture of safety. A design and manufacturing background with proven machining skills and expertise is preferred.
