The Role GovExec is a private-sector digital media and data company that serves a government audience. The Digital Operations team is looking for an IT Director to help us maintain our high level of performance. In this role, you will manage user technology and create an environment that ensures our remote workforce has the necessary technical tools and support. You will report to the CFO. This is a hybrid role requiring regular attendance at our Watergate office in DC 1-2 days per week. Responsibilities
- Leads development and implementation processes for the organization's IT systems and department.
- Communicate with stakeholders across departments to assess their needs and organize our IT efforts to meet them.
- Develops and implements business continuity protocols to minimize disruption to business operations in the event of emergencies or data loss.
- Establishes efficiency and efficacy standards, providing recommendations for improvement of IT infrastructure.
- Analyzes IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs.
- Manage help desk and oversee security of systems, networks, and enterprise information.
- Facilitates IT security audits or investigations.
- Develops and maintains relationships and budgets with external IT vendors and service providers.
- Supervise our IT help desk to ensure user problems are addressed and track repeated issues to prevent their recurrence. Work with them to create knowledge articles so they are equipped to solve anticipated issues.
- Track help desk metrics including response time, ticket frequency by topic, user satisfaction survey data for performance improvement.
- Manage our user hardware (mainly laptops and peripherals), including purchasing, tracking, provisioning and look for opportunities to lower costs.
- Lead user communication and training to ensure employee comprehension of technical changes. Create training materials or manage training sessions when necessary.
- Manage our cybersecurity posture, including network security by creating and updating cybersecurity policies. Work with users to ensure policy compliance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, or a related field (or equivalent relevant work experience).
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 10 years in leadership roles managing complex IT environments.
Cloud & IT Infrastructure Expertise:
- Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid infrastructures.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining top-tier technical talent.
- Ability to inspire and motivate teams to exceed performance expectations and drive innovation.
Security & Compliance Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of IT security best practices (e.g., NIST, SOC, SOX) and frameworks like HITRUST.
- Experience managing IT compliance and security audits.
Technical Depth & Communication:
- Strong technical background with expertise in networking, storage, systems engineering, and enterprise architecture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Vendor & Financial Acumen:
- Extensive experience in vendor management, contract negotiations, and managing IT budgets.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing large-scale IT budgets and resource allocations.
