Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for ensuring: (1) all maintenance tasks are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and King Aerospace (KA) quality standards, (2) the maintenance team has the right skills, training, tools, and equipment to operate in a safe and efficient manner, (3) the accuracy of bid quotes, and (4) positive, professional relationships are developed and maintained with current and prospective customers.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports directly to the General Manager for supervising all aircraft mechanics, technicians, and specialists assigned to the maintenance team and for managing facilities, equipment, and other resource associated with aircraft maintenance functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.





  1. Directs and manages all aircraft maintenance activities and efforts, including scheduling and labor utilization, to ensure aircraft are repaired and maintained in accordance with FAA regulations and standards and KA quality standards.



  2. Provide accurate quotes on presented information during the acquisition of new contract bids to the General Manager.



  3. Ensures priorities for repair and modification are followed and completed on schedule, within budget and within FAA and KA standards and regulations.



  4. Communicates and works with the General Manager and others on any required adjustments to the maintenance schedule and budget.



  5. Leads, manages, and assigns tasks to a team of airframe, powerplant, and sheet metal structural technicians according to individual levels of authorization and FAA A&P certification level.



  6. Ensures the quality of the maintenance work performed on aircraft meets or exceeds all aviation regulatory standards.



  7. Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of all quotes on aircraft maintenance estimates, including material, labor, and other requirements.



  8. Provides technical expertise, estimates, and support on all aircraft maintenance facets of sales activities.



  9. Networks, maintains, and develops contacts within the industry.



  10. Maintains and establishes a positive relationship with customers and prospective customers.



  11. Ensures the accountability, calibration, and availability of required tools, equipment, and materials to accomplish required tasks in accordance with FAA, manufacturer and safety requires.



  12. Practices, supervises, and maintains all safety precautions and standards associated with the aircraft maintenance.



  13. Oversees, follows, and ensures the proper execution of all processes and procedures associated with aircraft maintenance.



  14. Provides inputs for continued process improvement.



  15. Directly responsible for the implementation and enforcement of Tool Control and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) programs.



  16. Ensures technician performance is maintained within an individual's area of responsibility.



  17. Recruits, hires, manages, and ensures direct and contracted personnel have the proper skills, training, and aptitude to meet KA and FAA regulations.



  18. Responsible for conducting departmental performance evaluations in a timely and efficient manner.



  19. Provides accurate and timely documentation as required.



  20. Other duties as assigned.




Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in aviation management in corporate aircraft and air transport category, e.g., Boeing, specifically maintaining complex, large category, multi-engine, turbine-powered, fixed wing aircraft to include complex airframe modifications.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

This position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATH ABILITY:

This position requires the ability to apply concepts of basic math and algebra, fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

This position requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. This position must interpret a variety of instructions furnished written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Software: MISA (preferred), Access, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Internet software, MS Project Management, E-mail.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanic license required. FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) license preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, and talk or hear, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 40 pounds. This position requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
