Job Summary

API's Communications Intern will assist the Communications team with messaging, content management, social media, digital and traditional advertising, educational efforts, and strategic communications.

Projects and Tasks

  • Messaging and Content Management
    • Monitoring news media, especially surrounding ad hoc issues/events, in both traditional news and social media
    • Drafting press releases, talking points and statements, for the issues management team
    • Researching and writing content for API's Energy Tomorrow blog
  • Social, Digital Media and Creative Services
    • Identifying opportunities for organic social media content, using news clips and other research tools for all of API's social media channels
    • Administrative support on systems and process improvement implementations for the creative team
  • Strategic Communications
    • Participating in strategic communications meetings by discussing relevant news items and related ideas for messaging and promotion of content
    • Researching and identifying potential new speaking opportunities and event sponsorships
    • Upkeeping the strategic calendar and identifying additional dates and opportunities
    • Providing support on strategic writing and presentation materials

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram
  • Familiarity with Canva, Photoshop and other design applications is a plus but not a necessity
  • Applicants must be organized, detail-oriented and have an ability to think critically and problem solve, as well as work independently and be self-motivated

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25%
