Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Manager, Mechanical Engineering experience in pipeline & terminals to join our team in Houston, TX or Allentown, PA!

Role Summary:

The Manager, Mechanical Engineering role is responsible for leading a comprehensive mechanical engineering team focused on mechanical design for new projects in pipeline and terminals, rotating equipment, pipeline hydraulics and mechanical design standard maintenance. Typical duties include but are not limited to the following:

Team Leader



  • Lead dynamic team of 4-5 engineers focused on mechanical design for pipings and terminals, rotating equipment and system hydraulics to ensure that Company initiatives are completed, and all stakeholder needs are met.
  • Support and develop direct reports establishing individual and group goals that align with Buckeye Vision
  • Provide technical expertise and engineering support as needed
  • Report to leadership team on initiative updates, economic drivers, and KPI's
  • Collaborate with supply chain to maintain critical relationships with engineering service providers
  • Strategically distribute workload to ensure support activities are held within intended timeframe and budget



Program Management:



  • Provide oversight of the programs managed within the team.
  • May manage one or more maintenance programs.
  • Program manager owns the annual budget for all assigned programs and ensures all projects stay within their financial obligations.



Standards and Specifications



  • Owner of all mechanical engineering standards, specifications and recommended practices.
  • Collaborates with other standard owners to develop a vision and long-range plan for engineering standards with support and approval from key stakeholders and leadership.
  • Effectively leverages standards and practices to ensure compliance.
  • Leads and participates in the development and review of company manuals, procedures, standards, and recommended practices.



Project Involvement:



  • Partners with project managers, operations, business development and others to ensure group participation and engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identifies cost effective solutions and explores new technologies to meet the needs of a project.
  • Participate design reviews on projects of all sizes and complexity.



Position Requirements:



  • Bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field is required.
  • 5+ years' experience with pipeline & terminals
  • 1+ years' experience in personnel management
  • Experience with developing project scopes and estimates for project feasibility.
  • Experience with design and construction codes applicable to pipeline and bulk storage terminals for pumps, piping, tanks, etc.
  • Masters in mechanical engineering or MBA preferred.
  • Up to 25% travel



Certificates & Licenses:



  • PE and/or PMP preferred



Essential Functions:



  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.
  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.



Physical and Safety Requirements:



  • This position may require exposure to hazardous environments and require the wearing of a respirator.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  • This role continuously operates a computer and other office productivity equipment (i.e. a calculator, copy machine and computer printer).
  • The employee is frequently required to effectively communicate with others.
