Hourly Rate: $25.72 - $38.82

SIGN ON BONUS $7,500 &
Shift Differentials: $5/hr for 2nd and weekends, $10/hr for overnight hours

On-site clinical supervision provided to individuals with training licenses

Milwaukee Mobile Crisis forms part of Behavioral Health Services providing support to callers on the Milwaukee County Line by providing mental health crisis responses and intervention services to residents. Milwaukee County residents experiencing behavioral health crises deserve trained professionals to serve them during their most vulnerable moments. This team of changemakers responds to a wide range of needs throughout the community, wherever children and families need help to reduce a crisis, solve a problem or assess a need. Job Summary: The Milwaukee Mobile Crisis Clinician is part of the Milwaukee Mobile Crisis service, a community-based team that provides crisis intervention to residents on the Milwaukee County Crisis Line while also responding in person throughout Milwaukee County to assess and stabilize individuals who are experiencing a mental health crisis. This position is part of a multidisciplinary team made up of social workers, nurses, and counselors who respond to all community mobiles in pairs of two to provide a high level of intervention with appropriate linkages to long term services. A high level of clinical skills, independent decision making, ability to work under pressure, and knowledge of the community is imperative.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Assessment - Conduct psychiatric and psychosocial assessments, as well as evaluate danger to self and others (suicidal and homicidal ideation), in children and adults with significant mental health and co-occurring needs.
  • Crisis Intervention - Intervene and manage the acute crisis phase of mental illness in the community. De-escalate, stabilize, and resolve mental health crisis events (may include remaining with the individual in their community setting until stabilized and linked with other services).
  • Stabilize and Link - Effectively reduce any danger to self or others by providing therapeutic interventions, arranging for immediate services, and connecting to services/supports in the community until the danger is eliminated and the person is engaged in therapeutic services.
  • Crisis Plan - Implement plan of care by utilizing psychotherapeutic interventions, related to crisis assessment as well as the development of a crisis plan. Provide follow up contact to ensure intervention plans developed during the crisis are successful.
  • Consult and Educate - Consult and collaborate with the Community Access to Recovery Services, Wraparound Milwaukee, community hospitals, law enforcement, Crisis Services, and other mental health professionals. Provide community education regarding crisis management and mental health services.
  • Support - Provide transportation as needed. Support other internal Behavioral Health Services Crisis Programs, external contracted programs, and telephone triage. Participate in community engagement and outreach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Sign on bonus paid during the first year of employment. First half paid after successful completion of six-month probationary period from date of hire. Second half paid out at one-year anniversary. Current Milwaukee County Employees are NOT eligible for new hire sign on bonus. Former Milwaukee County employees are also not eligible for the sign on bonus unless they left Milwaukee County service five or more years prior to the new hire date

Minimum Requirements:



  • Authorized to work in the United States; Wisconsin residency within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable insured vehicle; both maintained throughout employment. Able to obtain a valid WI driver's license within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or in a closely related field.
  • Must possess a state licensure as applicable per degree at time of hire.
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in mental health crisis or closely related field is required.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays is required. Schedule is completed one month in advance with some flexibility to amend shifts as needed.
  • Able and willing to travel, 50% of work time within community utilizing County vehicles.
  • Able to lift/pull up to 25lbs as needed.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or in a closely related field with at least three (3) years of work experience in mental health crisis or closely related field. OR


  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or in a closely related field and possession of a Valid WISCONSIN State licensure, free of limitations, in one of the following:
  • Advanced Practice Social Workers (APSW)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or (LPC-IT)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or (LMFT-IT)


Note: This original examination is open to anyone authorized to work in the United States. Appointee must establish residency in the State of Wisconsin within six months of start date and maintain such residency during employment. In accordance with Rule III Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.
