Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
* Must possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson in the electrical trade. Non-certified applicants will have their training and experience evaluated by members of Facilities Services Senior Leadership Group to determine journey level status.
* See minimum certification for education requirements.
* Journey level knowledge and experience in the electrical trade and related practices to perform assigned duties without direct supervision.
* Experience to be flexible in a continuously changing and fast paced environment, making well planned decisions; highly motivated and results oriented.
* Knowledge of building codes regarding installation of electrical trade systems and approved safety devices and practices.
* Skills to inspect and perform preventive maintenance program on electrical systems and other campus systems related to craft functions. Skills to fabricate, maintain, service, repair, replace, install and/or alter electrical equipment and other campus systems related to craft functions.
* Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with all members of the campus and general public and provide clear and understandable reports and instructions.
* Analytical skill to understand and interpret technical data, mechanical and structural specifications and blueprints.
* Customer service skills to follow through on customer requests to resolve problems, answer questions and use available resources and references.

Preferred Qualifications
* Basic computer skills to operate a personal computer and learn the use of software.
* Skill to train apprentices or trainees, if required.
* Skill to maintain tools and equipment used in the electrical trade.
* Skill to keep shop and work area clean.
* Skill to evaluate possible system downtime and provide resolutions.

* 60% - Construction, Renovation and Maintenance
* 20% - Preventative Maintenance
* 20% - Mechanical/Electrical Operations

Department Overview
The Utilities, Power & Lights, Exterior Lighting unit is responsible for construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of low voltage (<600 volts) electrical utility systems, including outdoor lighting systems, emergency generators, underground sump pump circuits, and low voltage electrical services. This position is one of several journey-level electricians.

Work Environment
* UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. * This position is subject to completion of a pre-placement medical exam provided by Employee Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. This position may, at times, require the individual to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Specific hazards include but are not limited to: asbestos, PCB's radioactive materials, industrial and laboratory chemicals, fuels, solvents, infectious materials and wastes, biological hazards and other materials labeled hazardous. Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License. This position will participate in the DMV Pull Notice System. This position may be required to work a non-standard work schedule that may include nights, weekends, or alternative schedules such as 80 hours in 8 or 9 shifts instead of 10. This position supports critical campus functions operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. To assure adequate support of these functions the employee may be required to participate in an on-call program to facilitate timely return of staff to the campus as required to meet critical needs. This on-call program may include requirements for the employee to inform the University how they can be reached during non-working hours, to carry University provided radios, cell phones, pagers or other telecommunications equipment which would facilitate communication between the campus and employee during non-work hours, or to accept rotating on-call responsibility which could periodically restrict the off-campus movements of the employee. If the employee's nonworking hour movements are restricted by the University, employees will be compensated for their 'On-Call' time according to the established on-call rates. If actually called into work, the employee will be compensated according to the established campus policies. Employees may also be required to return to work after an assigned shift due to business necessity or emergencies. Compensation for 'Call-Back' will be in accordance with campus policies.
