About the Job

The Masonic Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism offers training in aging research, focusing on the Geroscience hypothesis: that systemic aging is the primary risk factor for virtually all age-related chronic diseases including neurodegenerative diseases. The labs us murine models of disease to interrogate fundamental mechanisms of aging that contribute to aging using genetic and pharmacologic approaches. The training opportunities are excellent and interdisciplinary, providing mentoring opportunities, journal clubs, seminar series, and training in ethics, rigor and reproducibility.

Summary of Position:
This position is a interdisciplinary post-doctoral fellowship with mentorship through the Departments of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics and Ophthalmology and the Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

The project focuses on characterization of novel murine models of age-related eye diseases. The position offers exceptional training in aging, aging-related degenerative diseases, cellular senescence, DNA damage and repair and molecular therapeutics.

Essential and other Functions:
75% Laboratory Research
Experimental design, collecting primary data and data analysis. Independently troubleshooting technical barriers and identifying novel approaches. Working with mice, monitoring animal health, measuring health span, behavioral studies, necropsies, tissue collection, preparing tissue lysates, immunoblotting, ELISAs, isolating RNA, qRT-PCR, cryosectioning, fluorescence microscopy, primary mammalian cell culture.

15% Research communication
