Primary Purpose of Department
The College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences ( CHESS) advances the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge and creativity and - by building the academic programs for tomorrow - educates students to be critical and imaginative thinkers and engaged citizens for a world increasingly characterized by diversity and change.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose is to direct and manage college-wide data, metrics, and management information about CHESS student, faculty and staff, enrollment and academic programs, facilities, and related items as required for federal, state, and UNC system and regional accreditor reporting.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Director for Assessment, Planning, and Accreditation has primary responsibility to support the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its various departments and units on assessing the effectiveness of its programs and services.

  • Assists faculty and staff in implementing, analyzing, and documenting assessment processes and procedures to demonstrate the quality and viability of programs and services.
  • Reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and will assist the college with program reviews, annual reporting, data collection and curation, course and curriculum, accreditation, assessments, and report generation and dissemination.
  • Responsibility to collect, curate, and share data and data-based reports, research briefs, and make presentations using data visualization techniques to highlight evidences of student impact, recognize best practices, and support improvement efforts.
  • Represents the College of University assessment efforts and liaises with central administration on assessment and accreditation efforts.
  • Serves as the administrative focal point for the college's data needs.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three years of full-time experience at an institution of Higher Education facilitating academic planning assessments and self-studies.
  • Significant experience in the area of assessment and/or evaluation.
  • Experience with outcome-based assessment strategies and methods.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret assessment results.
  • Proven ability to work collaborative and productively.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presenting workshops and developing reports.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Doctorate in a discipline related to educational assessment is preferred.
  • Significant experience in managing and leading large-scale academic assessment activities at the program-level is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software is preferred.
  • Proficiency with assessment and student software, including Anthology, and Banner is desired.
  • Proficiency with data visualization software, including Tableau is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with both quantitative and qualitative methods is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to conduct peer-reviewed research is strongly preferred.
  • Engagement in working with faculty and staff to promote effective strategic planning and assessment practices is necessary.
  • Engagement in the design, evaluation, and assessment of program performance is necessary.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to translate data into usable information and transform it into formats that are consumable for decision-making purposes.
