Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

We host several million visitors a year, connecting people with nature! As a Custodian, you will perform various tasks to maintain a clean, safe environment in County Parks. Please note that this position requires the employee to work in an office or field environment and/or to be customer-facing for all hours worked.

We Require

  • One year of custodial work experience
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License or be able to obtain one by the time of hire

Job Contributions

  • Ensures park facilities' cleanliness and sanitary conditions and works with appropriate cleaning supplies/chemicals using proper personal protective equipment
  • Collects trash, rakes, weeds, and prunes small trees and shrubs
  • Inspects assigned work areas, including analyzing field problems and developing proactive solutions. Makes recommendations for purchases to management
  • Safely operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs to custodial equipment
  • Removes graffiti and paints interior and external structures
  • Assists with maintenance projects
  • Greets customers, provides information, answers questions, collects entry fees when needed, provides directions, and educates customers on park rules
  • Responds to emergencies/rescues by contacting appropriate staff and providing support requested by law enforcement
  • Provides direction to volunteers or other work crews in manual labor tasks

Working Conditions

The employee in this position may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, noise, and vibration. They may encounter moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel. While performing the duties & responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations, and is subject to atmospheric conditions, for example, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Additionally, the employee in this position may be required to lift items weighing 50-100 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10-20 pounds constantly.

You must be familiar with the following:

  • Microsoft Office, including Outlook email

  • Power Scrubbers

The position requires the use of the following protective equipment:

  • Nitrile Gloves
  • Leather Work Gloves
  • Surgical Face Mask
  • Safety Glasses
  • Shoe Protectors (as needed)
  • Waterproof and Slip-Free Boots
