The Software Engineer position supports the U.S. Navy in the Groton, CT area and requires active security clearance or eligibility.

Position Summary
The Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain cutting-edge software solutions in support of federal government programs, including those for the U.S. Navy. This role involves the full lifecycle of software engineering, from requirements analysis and system design to development, testing, and deployment. The ideal candidate will have experience with integrating complex systems, database programming, and adhering to stringent cybersecurity and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities


  • Software Development:

    • Design, develop, and maintain software applications to meet project objectives and client requirements.
    • Implement and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software solutions using modern development practices.
    • Write, debug, and optimize code in various programming languages.


  • Database Engineering:

    • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot database solutions to support application performance and reliability.
    • Perform database optimization and ensure data integrity.


  • System Integration and Maintenance:

    • Integrate software with existing systems and ensure seamless functionality.
    • Maintain software development and testing environments, including local area networks (LANs).
    • Administer configuration management (CM) tools to ensure software version control and compliance.


  • Collaboration and Documentation:

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, systems engineers, and other stakeholders, to meet program requirements.
    • Prepare technical documentation, including Software Development Plans (SDPs) and operational support manuals.
    • Provide detailed assessments and recommendations for new technologies and system improvements.


  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure all software engineering efforts comply with applicable Department of Defense (DoD) and Navy standards, including cybersecurity requirements (e.g., DFARS 252.239-7001).
    • Perform testing and validation to ensure software meets required functionality and security standards.





Qualifications
Required:


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related quantitative field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, with demonstrated success in developing and maintaining complex systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++), database management systems (e.g., SQL, Oracle), and software development tools.
  • Experience with software engineering methodologies, including Agile, DevOps, or similar frameworks.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and information assurance requirements, including DoD 8570.01-M and NIST SP 800-171 standards.
  • Familiarity with Navy training systems or similar federal programs is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to classified information systems.


Desired:


  • Experience with developing training applications, interactive multimedia courseware, or similar software solutions.
  • Understanding of NAVSEA and submarine fleet readiness initiatives.
  • Familiarity with software validation, verification, and configuration management practices.
  • Active professional certifications (e.g., Certified Information Systems Security Professional [CISSP], Certified Software Development Professional [CSDP]).
