JOB OVERVIEW:

Responsible for implementing, maintaining, verifying and validating Blue Diamond Growers' Food Safety and Food Quality programs. Provides technical support to Production Operations relating to product quality. Adheres to all procedures and practices associated with Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality. Assists with the training and implementation of all practices and procedures associated with Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality. Provides direct training on the appropriate procedures and practices associated with Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality. Ensures that all personnel are adhering to the expectations set forth within these established procedures and practices. Implements, maintains, verifies and validates the company's SQF System; includes HACCP, Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises hires and trains Quality Control staff in a manner that will result in an informed, trained, and effective team.
  • Develops, audits and enforces Quality Control policies and procedures that will result in consistent quality products that fulfill internal and external customer needs.
  • Manages effective Quality Control data collection by conducting root cause analysis and problem-solving sessions with relevant cross functional teams.
  • Analyzes, and reports on key quality attributes as needed.
  • Tracks trends, average performance against the specifications, and overall process capability.
  • Serves as a resource to production improvement teams on technical quality issues.
  • Aids in the development of Quality Control worker instructions, calibration procedures, test procedures, Statistical Process Control (SPC) interpretation, and computer set up and data input.
  • Reports complaint findings to Operations; supports the investigation of complaints and reporting to customers on a timely basis.
  • Functions as a Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Practitioner; responsible for implementing, maintaining, verifying and validating of the Company's SQF System; includes HACCP, Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality.
  • Provides back-up support for other SQF Practitioners.
  • Ensures Quality Assurance documents and specifications are kept current.
  • Serves as the liaison between Sales and customers on quality issues.
  • Partners with Sales Managers and customers on defining product quality attributes are required.
  • Works with Production to ensure that the manufacturing process is capable of meeting the customer's requirements.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Food Science.
  • 5 years of food industry experience in a quality assurance environment, with at least 2 years at the supervisory level
  • Must be a proactive team player.
  • Experience working with employees at all levels of the organization as well as external customers in the business and technical fields.
  • Skilled in presenting concepts and ideas.
  • Must be able to write and interpret complex documents in a clear and concise manner.
  • Must exhibit a willingness to operate with a great degree of flexibility resulting from ever changing market conditions.
  • Proficient use of computer and analytical software.
  • Ability to develop, interpret and apply specification parameters.
  • Expert knowledge of statistics and SPC.
  • Strong technical background and ability to analyze laboratory reports and technical data.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Administrative duties such as specifications administration, COA preparation, etc.
  • Ability to review workload and testing frequency and make suggestions for increased effectiveness.
  • On call 24/7; required to work weekends as production dictates.
  • Required to possess or obtain certification as an SQF Practitioner.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Food Science plus 7-10 years of food industry experience in a quality assurance environment.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience working in the nut industry; knowledge of USDA Grades and Standards for the industry.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 1-5

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to physically move throughout the facility including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas. Able to work at a desk for extended periods of time doing analytical work or preparing reports on a computer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to work in a plant environment being exposed to dust, high noise levels, extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations, and wet operating work conditions. Typical conditions may include prolonged sitting, standing and walking.

Special Equipment Used: General laboratory test equipment. Computer and analytical software.
