Our Tool Room team consists of very talented and dedicated Tool & Die Makers and Tool Room Machinists. They are responsible for machining our custom tooling, automated fixtures, gages, etc. - with direct design input on these projects. And we are looking to add to this team by hiring a skilled Tool & Die Maker 3.
We are looking to have a self-motivated individual, with great Machining/EDM/Grinding skills, join the team and continue a legacy of high-quality work. Typical projects include Gage Making, One Hit Dimple Dies, and Automated Fixturing. What You'll Be Doing as a Tool & Die Maker 3:


  • Participates in the design and development of a broad range of tools to support the manufacture and assembly of L&S products. Applies specialized skill sets to independently analyze specifications, sets up and operates a wide range of machine tools, fits and assembles parts as well as fabricate, maintain and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures and gages. Troubleshoots Sets-up and operates a full range of both manual and CNC machine tools (lathe, milling machine and grinder) in order to design and build both simple and more complex tooling. Determines machining requirements and processes and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications
  • With only general guidance, works from blueprints, sketches, models and verbal description in order to build, rebuild, modify, and repair tools, dies, gages and necessary equipment. Determines required work tools and measurement devices.
  • Reviews and verifies prints and drawings, determines availability of materials and equipment and priorities and schedules work flow as appropriate.
  • Computes dimensions and plan layout and assembly operation. Measures, marks and scribes metal stock for machining. Plumbs pneumatic components for fixturing.
  • Fabricates, maintains, modifies and repairs metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures and gages. Ensures that designs incorporate the best ergonomics, quality and process expectations.
  • Builds, tests, calibrates, adjusts and maintains production gauging. Schedules outside vendor calibrations, creates or updates calibration procedures, orders new gauging. Maintains gauging database and prepares instruments prior to issue.
  • Participates in the development of performance specifications for tools and fixtures based on internal customer requirements. Works with tool engineers to identify and implement design improvements.
  • Effectively troubleshoots tool and die problems. Investigates issues, isolates cause, and determines corrective action.
  • Identifies and initiates preventative and routine maintenance on tools and equipment; inspects machined work pieces for quality and compliance.
  • Stays informed on state of the art technologies and participates in research and development of solutions.
  • Participates as a member of project or new tooling development teams. Leads/manages project teams. Monitors and adheres to project milestones and timelines.
  • Trains and mentors new employees or apprentices.
  • Performs back up lead duties as assigned.



Skills and Experiences You'll Need as a Tool & Die Maker 3:



  • High school education or equivalent, two years of trade school training and ten or more years of related experience. Ten or more years of specific tool and die making experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Expert level knowledge of Tool and Die Making practices, designs and construction.
  • Technical expertise in one or more specialized areas which may include gauge making, millwright, or other mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical specialties.
  • Thorough understanding of shop mathematics, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, and metal properties.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand highly technical electronic and written blueprints, models and specifications.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of hand and power tools.
  • Superior level of accuracy with demonstrated ability to operate standard shop machine tools to tolerances of .0002".
  • In-depth knowledge of layout, machining and tool assembly procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of CNC programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to communicate cross-functionally and with leadership regarding project resources and schedules.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to team members.
  • Strong computer knowledge and thorough knowledge of applicable CAM software required.



Work Environment for a Tool & Die Maker 3:
Work takes place in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and chemicals. Ability to use PPE. Ability to stand or sit for long periods; Good manual dexterity, fine motor skills, visual acuity, and ability to use full range of motion. Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Capable of operating light tools and basic machinery.
