The Academic Health Sciences Counsel (AHS Counsel) reports to the General Counsel of the University, and provides sophisticated legal support to the University's health sciences schools and colleges which exist in a complex and highly regulated environment involving research, teaching, and the provision of clinical services. The AHS Counsel in collaboration with other colleagues in the Office of the General Counsel, provides advice and counsel to senior leaders within the University, including the Deans and Associate Deans of the Medical School, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy, College of Veterinary Medicine, and School of Public Health, as well as the leadership of other units, and works in close cooperation with University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP), the non-profit corporation through which the approximately 1,000 medical faculty conduct clinical practice.
