Under direct supervision, duties of the SRA will include but are not limited to: assisting students/post-docs with their behavioral and molecular biology experiments, creating transgenic C. elegans strains by microinjecting DNA and familiar with transgenic insertion techniques such as MosSCI and CRISPR, isolating progeny that express this DNA and investigating the olfactory plasticity of these animals, utilizing genetic techniques to produce double and triply mutant strains of C. elegans, proficient in fluorescent confocal microscopy, carrying out a small independent project to investigate the relationship between C. elegans and its natural history which includes: plants, fungi as well as bacteria, performing molecular cloning to produce visual reporter constructs, maintaining and disseminating the L'Etoile lab plasmid and C. elegans strain collection, ordering and organizing the lab supplies, maintaining communication between the support staff and the lab researchers and troubleshooting problems with machinery and medium; and perform other duties as assigned.
