Building Engineer - Full Time - Pediatric Center, DC

Description Responsible for performing preventive maintenance on Hospital's equipment and utility systems. Conduct daily building rounds/tour and document readings. Possesses general knowledge of all building trades and maintenance procedures related to the operation of the hospital. Ensures efficient operation, inspection and maintenance of the hospital's essential utility systems and equipment to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and guests.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
10 years Experience in building maintenance and operation in a hospital, industrial or institutional setting. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
An understanding of the Joint Commission, DC Department of Health, local fire marshal, OSHA, EPA and other appropriate agencies regulations, standards and requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
Ability to complete multiple priorities and make appropriate decisions to ensure completion of tasks within time constraints.
Ability to develop and present oral and written presentations.
Proficient in the use of a personal computer and associated software including energy management and facilities management programs.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, drawings and operations manuals.

Required Licenses and Certifications
DC Third Class Steam Engineers (Required)
EPA Universal Certification in Refrigerant Transition and Recovery. (Required)

CPO Certified Pool Operator with in 12 month of hire

Job Functions



  • Performs preventive maintenance, corrective and emergency repairs on the Hospital's equipment and utility systems.


  • Conduct daily building rounds/tour, report problems to Director of Engineering.


  • Comply with the department Lock-out Tag-out policy when performing PMs/repairs.


  • Performs general building repairs to the interior and exterior of facility.


  • Complete required orientation, annual training and in-services. Also ensures all competencies are maintained.


  • Ensures timely and cooperative inter- and intra-departmental relationships and communications throughout the hospital and the system and with individuals external to the hospital and system.


  • Follows all hospital and system policies and procedures.


  • Keeps Director Engineering appropriately informed about all significant issues and problems and seeks their counsel when necessary.


  • Ensure familiarization with the hospital and department safety plan and execute all job responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner.


  • Maintains skills, licensure, regulatory requirements and credentials needed to perform assigned duties.


  • Promotes the "RELATE" (Reassure, Explain, Listen, Answer, Take Action, Express Appreciation) culture and a culture of Family/Patient-Center Care.


  • Ensures familiarization with laws, regulations and standards, including those governing professional practice/ requirements specified by Joint Commission/DOH and other relevant regulatory agencies and organizations.


  • Responsible for, physical cleanliness and appearance of the physical plant.


  • Perform minor repairs furniture cribs, beds and other items as needed.


  • May perform other duties in addition to those outlined in this job description.
