The Verizon Cybersecurity organization securely enables the business by protecting assets and information across Verizon networks, infrastructure and applications. We integrate governance, policies, technologies and operations across Verizon, and work to incorporate security into the design of technology systems and services. The Data Protection Services team provides leadership for the design, engineering and implementation of data protection services and capabilities across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data management, and security, with expertise in SQL, Python, and functional testing. This role requires a proactive candidate who can ensure compliance with Data Security and Corporate Security policies while driving the team to meet critical deadlines. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating with various application and data teams, prioritizing tasks, and providing regular progress updates to management. This role comprises key responsibilities in areas of data security and compliance, collaboration and communication, project management, technical expertise and continuous improvement including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring all sensitive data (contractually or regulatory identified sensitive data) is handled in compliance with Data Security and Corporate Security policies.
  • Helping to implement best practices in Data protection and maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Coordinating with various application teams, data teams, and stakeholders to ensure the seamless handling of GSAM testing.
  • Facilitating frequent communication and meetings with internal and external teams to prioritize sensitive data testing related tasks
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for any sensitive data testing related issues, ensuring they are resolved promptly and effectively.
  • Monitoring the progress of sensitive data testing projects and ensuring they are completed on time within SAL.
  • Providing regular updates to senior management, including weekly and monthly reports on the status of sensitive data testing, key metrics, and any potential risks.
  • Tracking and submitting jira stories related to data security portal.
  • Utilizing SQL and Python for data discovery, analysis, and editing tasks.
  • Developing and maintaining complex PL SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
  • Participating in troubleshooting technical issues and complex data-related challenges.
  • Performing functional testing on the data security portal.
  • Performing data validation testing.
  • Collecting feedback from cross functional teams to improve the functionality of security portal.
  • Staying informed about the latest developments in data management technologies and tools, and recommending their adoption where appropriate.
  • Fostering a culture of innovation and learning within the team, encouraging the exploration of new methods and techniques.
What we're looking for You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or one or more years of work experience.
  • One year of experience in data management.
  • Experience in SQL, Python, and data scraping techniques.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • Understanding of Data Security and Corporate Security policies and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of handling sensitive data and date protection technologies.
  • Proficient in Jira and other agile tools.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Certification in data management or related fields is an advantage.
