Utility Coordinator Practice Leader

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Utility Coordinator Practice Leader to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead and shape the future of our Utility Coordination practice while managing complex design projects and developing new strong client relationships throughout the Southeast region.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Technical Oversight

    Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Lead project delivery and coordination across multiple design disciplines
  • Ensure quality control standards and industry best practices are maintained
  • Manage state DOT projects, including proposal preparation, contract management, and billing
  • Oversee the Utility Coordination process and design package development using state design standards

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to project team members
  • Train and mentor team members on surveying best practices and technologies
  • Drive staff development and establish performance targets within the Practice
  • Work independently while fostering a collaborative team environment

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients throughout the South Region
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the Southeast
  • Prepare written technical proposals and assemble teams to meet client criteria
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on business development strategies
  • Participate in industry conferences as a speaker or panelist
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of Utility Coordination experience
  • Completed Plan Development Process (PDP) Certification
  • Knowledge of Bentley Design Modules, particularly OpenRoads
  • Strong understanding of Design Build projects and procedures
  • Proven experience with state DOT transportation design projects
  • Demonstrated success in business development and client relationship management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) for designated state
  • Established local client network
  • Experience presenting at industry conferences
  • Track record of successful project delivery in the Southeast region

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 -15 years of professional experience.
  • Appropriate professional certification preferred.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.


Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Prepare and deliver timely annual employee performance appraisals for assigned staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships by soliciting monthly performance feedback, identifying client needs, and identifying the next project
  • Provide input for the annual business development plan to achieve Oracle sales target to the discipline manager and submit by January 1
  • Work with the Discipline Manager, Regional/Practice Leaders, and the CFO to develop annual budget between September 1 and November 15
  • Answer questions at monthly town hall meetings
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure practice fulfills ISO compliance requirements
  • Hire and manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
  • Meet annual Performance Agreements targets
  • Meet monthly or more frequently as necessary with the Discipline Manager, Regional/Practice Leader(s), and the CFO to review financial performance, business development activities, and staffing
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Participate and contribute to annual leadership meeting(includes PLEP training)
  • Participate in and contribute to applicable regional office forums
  • Represent KCI in one technical society and one community organization
  • Review annual Employee Satisfaction Survey and implement required corrective actions
  • Provide input to annual market research between June 1 and August 31
  • Provide market trends to the Discipline Manager for the strategic planning sessions
  • Provide project and client leads to other regional practice leaders to grow their regional practices
  • Report monthly proposal results to operations manager
  • With the Discipline Manager, review annual market research between June 1 and August 31
  • Chart and coordinate practice performance results
  • Deliver all projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Meet biweekly or more frequently as necessary with project team on all projects/tasks greater than $50K in fees
  • Meet monthly with clients to review project progress
  • Monitor effective use of equipment and personnel
  • Negotiate scope, schedule, and fee estimates for large and significant projects
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and invoices for projects
  • Prepare monthly staff utilization plans
  • Provide input to unbilled work authorizations and forward to the operations manager
  • Provide monthly project updates to project analysts
  • Provide monthly WIP/AR comments to the operations manager
  • Provide technical project and staff oversight
  • Provide weekly new project budget data to project analysts
  • Serve as project manager on select projects
  • Develop project specific safety plans.Ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulations
