Job Summary:

Rec Well seeks a creative, innovative, and detail-oriented individual to join our Marketing & Communications team. This role will have an opportunity to create innovative marketing solutions that meld both written and visual components across multiple platforms. Along with departments and cross-functional teams, you'll apply the creative process to deliver on project objectives and demonstrate strong creativity, visual awareness, attention to detail, and commitment to brand consistency in all assignments. Our state-of-the-art facilities and programs provide space for physical activity and wellbeing services to support the holistic health and wellbeing of UW-Madison students, the campus, and the greater Madison community. You will play a key role in creating visual marketing and communications content that communicates Rec Well's mission, vision, and goals.

The Coordinator of Graphic Design is a full-time staff member under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications. This position will work in tandem with photographer and marketing and outreach coordinators to achieve strategic visual communication supporting Rec Well's mission, vision, and values.

This position will contribute to design expertise and support for the promotion of our programs, services, and facilities. This position will also have responsibilities in interpreting concepts and ideas through compelling art direction and design to create materials that move Badgers to play hard, get fit, and live well. Additionally, they will be directly responsible for leading a team of three to five student employees.


Responsibilities:
Conceptualizes, plans, and executes digital and/or print design to support the strategic objectives of the institution; creates on-brand, compelling visual assets used to inform, educate, inspire, and/or persuade.

  • 20% Creates, designs, and produces artwork per project specifications through various mediums
  • 5% Analyzes and identifies cost effective options to meet project requirements
  • 5% Schedules logistics, secures resources, organizes, and monitors art production projects adhering to established timelines and expectations
  • 10% Answers questions and provides information and problem resolution options to clients and stakeholders
  • 20% Applies creative expertise within established brand and style guidelines
  • 20% Works collaboratively with other creative professionals, engages in and responds to creative feedback, manages project workflow and timing, maintains files, and follows established work unit processes
  • 10% Act as the Marketing & Communications liaison for several departments, track notes for meetings, and share updates at a Marketing & Communications Department meeting
  • 10% Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of 2 - 5 student graphic designers

Education:

Required:
Associate's degree

Preferred:
Bachelor's degree preferably in Art, Design, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.


Qualifications:

Required:
- Experience in graphic design, whether through working in an agency, business, educational setting, or any other creative environment.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, with an openness to learning new tools and techniques.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while staying organized and on top of tasks.

Preferred:
- Experience with branding or design in the fields of higher education, public health, recreational sports, or well-being/wellness.
- Knowledge or skill set with video editing, animation, or motion graphics.
- UI/UX Design: Familiarity with designing user interfaces and experiences, as digital design continues to grow.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location, up to one day per week, if desired.

Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary range for this position is $48,500 up to $54,000 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
