Material Handler I The Material Handler is responsible for loading, unloading, processing and storing hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at a permitted waste treatment facility with supervision.

Essential Functions & Requirements:



  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Loads, unloads and processes solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, federal, state and local regulations/rules
  • Operates a fork truck and Bob Cat with attachments as well as brooms, shovels, production machines, palletizers, tractor, ladders and stairs
  • Attaches appropriate labels and tags to products and packages
  • Packs finished goods into correct packages, pails and lace finished goods on designated pallets
  • Directs liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage
  • Performs basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed
  • Performs chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues
  • Utilizes barcode system equipment to document certain inventory activities
  • Reviews laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials
  • Utilizes Department of Transportation (DOT) knowledge to match and label inbound materials and for storage and shipping of containers to other sites
  • Uses proper equipment to remove samples of materials for analysis and compatibility checks
  • Operates a hydraulic bailer for cardboard and other materials
  • Keeps operating areas, walls, pipes and floor in a clean and safe condition
  • Utilizes knowledge of applicable EPA, DOT, OSHA and permit regulations
  • Maintains an understanding of Heritage Coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers
  • Safely and appropriately utilizes personal protection equipment (PPE), such as Boots, Gloves, Suits, Eye/Ear Protection and Respirator
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization



Education:




  • High-school diploma or equivalent (preferred); one year of steady work history may be substituted



Experience:




  • 1 year of related experience (preferred)
  • 24-40 hour HAZWOPER certificate (preferred)



Competencies:



  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
