Job Summary

Incumbent will assist in the execution of community engagement, tribal engagement, and corporate partnership strategies. Works closely with tribal leaders, representatives, and internal stakeholders to ensure the implementation of annual strategy to promote and increase the organizations' support for individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works directly with community members, tribal leaders, tribal representatives, internal stakeholders, and funders.
  • Assists in cultivating interest and participation in funding opportunities.
  • Build relationships and engage with community members, leaders, organizers, and Tribal Sovereignty Partners.
  • Anticipates project needs, discern work priorities, schedule work of volunteers and others, work independently, always meet deadlines with little supervision, and be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Be a continual enthusiastic professional and be able to build relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Works with supervisor to develop short- & long-term tactical business development strategies.
  • Prospects for potential new community clients to increase business and networking.
  • Cold calls as appropriate within the assigned market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Researches, identifies, develops, and submits grants for funding.
  • Maintain sales and funding pipeline in company Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, including entry and regular review and update of opportunities.
  • Regularly reports on opportunity status to company and department leadership.
  • Attends industry functions virtually or in person, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and industry trends.
  • Creates regular progress reports and performs thorough analysis.
  • Ensures that data is accurately entered and managed within the company's ERP/CRM (Dynamics).
  • Creates letters, spreadsheets, charts and graphs, as needed.
  • Takes notations, meeting minutes and type letters.
  • Implements marketing and advertising campaigns; preparing marketing and advertising strategies, plans, and objectives; planning and organizing promotional presentations; building a new book of business.
  • Prepares marketing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales data from their territory.
  • Supports sales staff by providing sales data, market trends, forecasts, account analyses, new product information, relaying customer services requests.
  • Maintains job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading trade publications.
  • Plans meetings and community events by identifying, assembling, and coordinating requirements; establishing contacts; developing schedules and assignments; coordinating mailing lists.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with tribal leaders, representatives, and community members through regular communication, meetings, and participation in tribal events
  • Collects and analyzes data on local demographics, develops results, and presents the conclusions to supervisor to develop strategy.
  • Coordinates and participates in tribal consultations, public hearings, and community events to ensure that tribal perspectives are considered in organizational decision-making processes.
  • Stay informed about tribal laws, regulations, and policies that may impact our organization's operations and initiatives.
  • Conduct research studies on American Indian cultures and peoples and provide the information to personnel associated with the tribes and organization.
  • Display professionalism, good judgment, maturity, and fairness when interacting with others and staff.
  • Ensures written and verbal communication with all levels of management, staff, vendors and property management or accurate and with good grammar.
  • Strong interpersonal, creative problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Displays a warm, pleasant personality, emphasizing tact, empathy, and patience.
  • Focus on the donors, local businesses events and venues that may be useful to the organization.
  • Project management and event coordination.
  • Perform office work that benefits the business development department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field such as Business, Communications, Social Work, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience working directly for or with tribal governments, and/or business and community outreach, or related work.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business, Communications, Social Work, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience working directly for or with tribal governments, and/or business and community outreach, or related work.
  • Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of American Indian and Alaska Native cultures and tribal governance structures.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (PL93-638).
  • Knowledge of Title V of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (PL 94-437).
  • Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (PL 111-148).
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) cultures and lifestyles, and work effectively with AI/AN population.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where flexibility and being proactive are essential.
  • Ability to create and/or develop content.
  • Ability to network with various tribes, organizations, and sponsors at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information and comply with all applicable federal and state privacy laws, as well as UAII policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and highly strong detailed oriented.
  • Ability to keep up with a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with various people on various, and at times, complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
