Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The
NCCU Department of Athletics' primary purpose is to provide leadership for an
NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The
NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The Head Women's Volleyball Coach will be responsible for all aspects of a Division I program which includes but is not limited to: day-to-day operations; scheduling of contests; the recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes; fiscal planning; game strategy including practice and game coaching; supervising and evaluating volleyball assistants and staff; donor fundraising; alumni, community, and media relations. The successful candidate must be able to develop positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, media, alumni, and donors while interacting successfully with department personnel and university community. The Head Coach must conduct a women's volleyball program in compliance with all
NCAA, State, National,
MEAC and Institutional rules and regulations. In addition the successful candidate must also conduct the women's volleyball program in concert with university mission and goals, in which student-athletes graduate and achieve competitive success. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to understand and enforce safety rules and regulations. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Knowledge of
NCAA Division I regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Demonstrate successful fundraising skills. Possess a thorough knowledge of the game, a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies, and a demonstrated ability to enhance player development. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Minimum requirement: Bachelors' degree required; Master's preferred; Preferred four years or more Division I experience; Preferred head coaching experience; successful graduation rate of student-athletes and
APR if applicable; proven history of success at previous position; successful in recruiting student-athletes within the framework of the university guidelines and policies; and proven ability to lead and manage team dynamics including staff, student-athletes, practice, game and recruiting. |

Recruiting: The Head Coach is responsible for the development of a comprehensive plan to identify, evaluate and recruit high quality student-athletes. This includes, but is not limited to, phone contacts, in-person evaluations, home visits and student-athlete visits to campus. The Head Coach is responsible, as per
NCAA rules, to maintain accurate records of all recruitment activities for himself/herself and for his/her assistant coaches. |

Team Preparation: The Head Coach is responsible for training, teaching and conditioning student- athletes in preparation for all intercollegiate contests. The Head Coach will plan and supervise practices, prepare game strategies and coach the team at contests. The Head Coach will work closely with the Strength and Conditioning and Athletic Training staffs to develop a yearlong program of conditioning and injury prevention. |

Student-Athlete Development: The Head Coach is responsible for creating an atmosphere and culture that is a reflection of the missions of both the Athletic Department and the College. A positive student-athlete experience, both on and off the field is a number one priority of the coaching staff and administration. |

Administrative Responsibilities: The Head Coach will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative tasks including, but not limited to, scheduling of practices and games, annual reports, recruiting logs, providing rosters and other paperwork to various offices for
NCAA compliance issues, team travel plans, media guide development, etc. and all any/all administrative requirements for any other duties as assigned. |
