Position Summary
The Lab Tech role supports participants in the Marine Apprenticeship Program within the lab and area identified by the Marine Technician Instructor; ensure proper instruction and safety measures are applied within the lab.

Essential Job Duties



  • Prepare (set-up and breakdown) lab for classes to include preparation of materials, shop equipment, maintenance and tool inventory, notify supervisor when supplies are needed or missing,
  • Assist the Instructor in the lab and oversee apprentices in the operation of lab equipment, safety rules and guidelines, monitor for safety violations and report violations immediately to supervisor,
  • Demonstrate the proper use of tool(s) and related safety requirements,
  • Clean, check and perform maintenance and/or calibration on tools and equipment to ensure optimal functioning; maintain equipment maintenance records,
  • Attend and maintain appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation training and certification as defined by state and contract requirements,
  • Attend and maintain CPR and First Aid certification by nationally recognized organization,
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned


Minimum Education, Training and Experience



  • High School Diploma or GED with Vocational Certificate, Associates preferred,
  • Minimum 2 years' relevant experience, Workforce Development training and/or job placement preferred,
  • Experience working and/or supervising youth a plus,
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Intermediate Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, Entry Level Excel), Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safety procedures with a minimum of current OSHA 30 certification or the ability to obtain within the identified timeline,
  • Ability to work well collaboratively and independently,
  • Possess, strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
